Mes Quins:
Back in 2008, Ovidiu Chihaia and Silviu Gherman decided to start up a band - Mes Quins, a synth-pop effort with disco overtones based in Bucharest, Romania. In his youth, Chihaia, a precocious guitar-player, had been part of various underground Bucharest acts (Pure, Guillotines and Hotel Fetish), thus enriching the band with valuable showbiz know-how, a skill that Gherman didn't have. Besides a passion for electronic sounds, Gherman had been acting in various TV commercials and writing books. In fact, Mes Quins' very first concert was at a release party for Gherman's second book.

Following such an explosive debut, gigs came and went rapidly for Mes Quins, until the two of them lost count and in the haze of such success hired a bass player (Gina Teslaru) and a drummer (Ovidiu Rusu). They're like family now.

In 2009, Mes Quins played gigs in most Bucharest clubs, opened for Namosh, Handsome Furs, Noblesse Oblige and Kissogram, shocking the audience on every occasion with their overtly sexual image and a total lack of style to support it.

Mes Quins' debut album, Electro German, mixed by Dan Serbanescu (Divine Muzak, The Pixels) can be downloaded for free from the band's website . The first single, Printeso, was featured in Romanian radio airplay charts.

"Make art not war" is Jimmy Mirikitani's motto. This 85-year-old Japanese American artist was born in Sacramento and raised in Hiroshima, but by 2001 he is living on the streets of New York with the twin towers of the World Trade Center still ominously anchoring the horizon behind him. What begins as a simple verite portrait of one homeless man will become a rare document of daily life in New York in the months leading up to 9/11. How deeply these two stories will be intertwined cannot yet be imagined. This is the story of losing "home" on many levels.

How did Mirikitani end up on the streets? The answer is in his art. As tourists and shoppers hurry past, he sits alone on a windy corner in Soho drawing whimsical cats, bleak internment camps, and the angry red flames of the atomic bomb. When a neighboring filmmaker stops to ask about Mirikitani's art, a friendship begins that will change both their lives. In sunshine, rain, and snow, she returns again and again to document his drawings, trying to decipher the stories behind them. The tales spill out in a jumble -- childhood picnics in Hiroshima, ancient samurai ancestors, lost American citizenship, Jackson Pollock, Pearl Harbor, thousands of Americans imprisoned in WWII desert camps, a boy who loved cats... As winter warms to spring and summer, she begins to piece together the puzzle of Mirikitani's past. One thing is clear from his prolific sidewalk displays: he has survived terrible traumas and is determined to make his history visible through his art.

Proiecte in care este implicat:

* este numele unui proiect început în urma cu 2 ani și constă în combinarea unor frânturi de emisie tv pe muzică.
* este un colaj video construit muzical.
* este, altfel spus, o muzică făcută din fragmente audio-vizuale capturate și selectate din lumea multicoloră a micului ecran. Elementele muzicale sunt desfășurate și controlate live, împreună cu elementele video, de catre Matze și Rolf (Rolf Ono), pe o instalație de două ecrane principale independente și mai multe proiecții dintr-o a treia sursă, desfașurate lateral.

este un proiect marca Matze & DJ Vasile. Emisiunea este realizată de cei doi, din 2005, la Studio88, pentru RADIO GUERRILLA.
Se difuzează în fiecare MARȚI de la 11 noaptea la 1 dimineața.

Ovidiu Andrei was born in Ploiesti, on the 6th of june 1990. His powerful connection with music made him improve his musical knowledge, becoming awareof the fact that he has his own place in a world of sound. In 2005 he mixes for the first time in Ploiesti. 2007 was the year when he started organizing parties with some friends, in different locations. In 2009 he joined the Lollipop team and in the summer of the same year, he mixed at Lollipop Beach Club in Navodari and Tree House, Paulesti, so he became quickly noticed as a DJ in Bucharest. With his colleagues, he charmed the crowd during some afterhour parties in Bubbles Club, Bucharest, his most important moment was the 2009 – 2010 NYE Party, at Bubbles Club, in a 16 hours musical marathon. 2010 brought him gigs at Hidden Garden(Paulesti), Privilege Club(Ploiesti), Iarmaroc Fest, Open Air(Paulesti), Privilege Terrace(Ploiesti), Club Space, Embryo and in 2011, he mixed at Space Club, Tralala, Studio Martin, Street Delivery, Sass Summer Club and Kudos Beach. In his opinion, an artist must be inspired and ambitious and must have 3 qualities : good music, technique and imagination. Ovidiu Andrei is inspired by the elements from nature that create his minimalist sound, with techno and dub influences.

Centered on a rare interview that director and friend Tamra Davis shot with Basquiat over twenty years ago, this definitive documentary chronicles the meteoric rise and fall of the young artist. In the crime-ridden NYC of the 1970s, he covers the city with the graffiti tag SAMO. In 1981 he puts paint on canvas for the first time, and by 1983 he is an artist with “rock star status.” He achieves critical and commercial success, though he is constantly confronted by racism from his peers. In 1985 he and Andy Warhol become close friends and painting collaborators, but they part ways and Warhol dies suddenly in 1987. Basquiat’s heroin addiction worsens, and he dies of an overdose in 1988 at the age of 27. The artist was 25 years old at the height of his career, and today his canvases sell for more than a million dollars. Started in 1997 as a hobby, BRAZDA LUI NOVAC is now Romanian musician Victor Popescu’s fully blossomed electronic project. Having spent his childhood in a district called „Brazda Lui Novac” (tr. „the furrow of Novac”), Victor found it fitting to give the same name to what he musically creates as an adult.

Entailed in a unheard-of genre fusion, BRAZDA LUI NOVAC’s sound stretches from unheard synth textures to collages of electro, 80’s new wave often encompassing subtle elements of shoegaze.

In 2003, Victor opened Square Sound Studio, followed by Square Sound Records in 2009. This had a major influence in BRAZDA LUI NOVAC’s live sets by drifting the digital feel of the music to a more physical one by including more hardware to the act.

BRAZDA LUI NOVAC has painted quite the picture in past years playing tens of headliner concerts or opening acts in Romania and Europe. His in-studio and on-stage collaborations include songs with Yvat, Silent Strike, Dezz or Artan.

2010 marked the release of his debut self-titled album, available exclusively in digital format on various online music stores.
In october 2011 he released the second album, Dizzy, at Raumklang Music (DE).

Filmul urmareste in viata reala visul oricarui om al strazii: sa devina candva celebru si sa scape definitiv de saracie, mizerie si umilinta. Ion Barladeanu va deveni probabil unul dintre cei mai importanti artisti romani contemporani, dar in mai 2008 era inca un anonim om al strazilor din București.

Ion Barladeanu este un om al strazii de 62 de ani. Doarme pe o saltea murdara la capatul unei ghene a unui bloc de pe Calea Mosilor, din bunavointa proprietarilor carora in schimb le sorteaza gunoiul. In “locuinta” sa, Ion recupereaza ceea ce ii cade langa pat si astfel ajunge sa citeasca toate cartile, revistele si ziarele pe care ceilalti nu le mai folosesc.

Cand era tanar, Ion visa sa devina regizor de film. In anii 70 a inceput sa creeze colaje pe care le numeste “filmele mele”, dar acesta este un secret pe care nu il impartaseste decat cu oamenii pe care ii considera destul de inteligenti ca sa ii inteleaga si sa ii aprecieze lucrarile. Pe Ion nu il intereseaza sa se imbogateasca din arta pe care o face, ci isi doreste doar o bicicleta simpla.

Dan Popescu este un tanar galerist care a auzit din intamplare despre Ion Barladeanu si s-a hotarat sa-l viziteze. Tanarul a fost coplesit de cele peste 800 de colaje facute de artistul din ghena intre anii ’70 – ’90, colaje care se incadreaza in suprarealism si popart, venind dintr-o vreme in care manifestarile artistice de acest fel erau interzise si complet inaccesibile romanilor. In mod ironic, acest artist autodidact crede ca el a inventat colajul, caci nu a mai vazut o astfel de forma de arta inainte.

La de 62 de ani, Barladeanu a expus la Bucuresti pentru prima oara 20 de lucrari pe teme politice.

Popescu i-a gasit o noua locuinta, in care s-a mutat dupa cateva luni, caci a fost reticent in a-si parasi cuibul de la ghena. Odata mutat, Ion incepe sa creeze noi colaje, care, ca si cele vechi, reconstituie trecutul din experientele personale ale artistului sau prezinta lumea prin prisma sa personala. Urmele experientei sale de gropar sau ale experientei in inchisoare pe vremea comunismului se regasesc in personajele din lucrarile sale.

Ion vrea sa se confrunte cu trecutul sau si isi viziteaza dupa aproape 20 de ani familia si casa parinteasca a copilariei de unde a evadat cand era foarte tanar. A fugit de familia care vroia sa il faca zidar comunist si care l-a respins, considerandu-l un “nebun, bun de nimic”.

Popescu pregateste primele expozitii ale lui Ion in strainatate. Este prezent la Basel si Londra in 2009 si la Paris in 2010.

Beautiful Losers follows the lives and careers of a collective group of Do-it-yourself artists and designers who inadvertently affected the art world.

The greatest cultural accomplishments in history have never been the result of the brainstorms of marketing men, corporate focus groups, or any homogenized methods; they have always happened organically. More often than not, these manifestations have been the result of a few like-minded people coming together to create something new and original for no other purposethan a common love of doing it. In the 1990s, a loose-knit group of American artists and creators, many just out of their teens, began their careers in just such a way.

Influenced by the popular underground youth subcultures of the day, such as skateboarding, graffiti, street fashion and independent music, artists like Shepard Fairey, Mark Gonzales, Spike Jonze, Margaret Kilgallen, Mike Mills, Barry McGee, Phil Frost, Chris Johanson, Harmony Korine, and Ed Templeton began to create art that reflected the lifestyles they led. Many had no formal training and almost no conception of the inner workings of the art world...

Filmed over nearly three years, WASTE LAND follows renowned artist Vik Muniz as he journeys from his home base in Brooklyn to his native Brazil and the world's largest garbage dump, Jardim Gramacho, located on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. There he photographs an eclectic band of “catadores”—self-designated pickers of recyclable materials. Muniz’s initial objective was to “paint” the catadores with garbage. However, his collaboration with these inspiring characters as they recreate photographic images of themselves out of garbage reveals both the dignity and despair of the catadores as they begin to re-imagine their lives.

Vik Muniz was born into a working-class family in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1961. As a young man he was shot in the leg whilst trying to break up a fight. He received compensation for his injuries and used this money to fund a trip to New York City, where he has lived and worked since the late 1980s. He began his career as a sculptor but gradually became more interested in photographic reproductions of his work, eventually turning his attention exclusively to photography. He incorporates a multiplicity of unlikely materials into this photographic process. Often working in series, Vik has used dirt, diamonds, sugar, string, chocolate syrup and garbage to create bold, witty and often deceiving images drawn from the pages of photojournalism and art history. His work has been met with both commercial success and critical acclaim, and has been exhibited worldwide. His solo show at MAM in Rio de Janeiro was second only to Picasso in attendance records; it was here that Vik first exhibited his “Pictures of Garbage Series” in Brazil.

Electroclown [Cluj Napoca] - electro & funk, live set.

Electroclown mixează din 2003 și produce muzica pentru film, teatru sau altele, din 2005. A colaborat pentru live act uri cu Mihai Iordache (saxofon), Utu Pascu (bas), Shtuki (flaut), Dan Aga (chitara si electronice), Mioritza Soundsystem (fluier berimbau, percutie) si multi altii, separat sau impreuna.
Folosește o paleta mare de genuri muzicale - mixurile ajung sa sune destul de eclectice si cateodata schizofrenice, fiind tot timpul o improvizație (no playlist).
In ultima perioada lucrează la muzica pentru un film de buget mic si produce piese, având un proiect deschis cu Dan Aga, Bogdan Racolkza (Mioritza Soundsystem), Indjstione, Matli MC și, din când in când, cu saxofonistul Jakob, sub numele Origin Project.
Electroclown conduce si un grup de percutie alaturi de Bogdan Racolkza sub numele Your Brain on Drums.

Alexandru Rusu s-a născut în Piatra Neamț. Interesul pentru muzica are rădăcini încă din copilărie când a urmat cursuri de pian și Școala de Arte Piatra Neamț. Pasiunea pentru muzica electronica s-a transformat în principala ocupație a lui Alex in urma cu 4 ani. S-a făcut remarcat pe plan local 2 ani după care a început proiectul numit Moutain Beach, unde a fost rezident 2 sezoane mixând alături de nume ca Federico Molinari, Nima Gorji, Cezar, Praslea, Ali Nasser, Chris Simonds fiind apreciat de toți aceștia. Planurile de viitor fiind o aprofundare a cunoștințelor tehnice si o clasare cat mai buna în mediul muzical existent. Alex Rusu se prezintă ca un new-comer aparte nedorind sa fie influențat de nici un fel de mișcare sau opinie din exterior urmându-și simțurile artistice și privind cu încredere către ceea ce va urma.

Denumit “Happening Poética”, Compania FaPt propune un eveniment artistic, asociat postmodernismului scenic care, pe parcursul anilor, a căpătat o diversitate de forme, cele mai cunoscute fiind happening-ul şi performance-ul.
Pentru prima oară în România, poemul “Howl / Urletul” al lui Allen Ginsberg va fi prezentat sub forma unei interacţiuni între cuvânt, sunet şi imagine, ce va fi susţinută de Ionuţ Caras, artist ieşean, actor al Teatrului Naţional din Cluj, nominalizat, în 2010, la Premiul pentru Cel Mai Bun Actor în Rol Principal la Gala UNITER, distins cu Premiul de Excelenţă, acordat de Cluburile Lions şi Rotary, ca recunoaştere a meritelor deosebite în domeniul artistic; Iuliana Gâlea - Setsuna, artist vizual, cunoscută pentru crearea videoproiecţiilor spectacolului “Dawn Way” în regia lui Radu Afrim şi Bogdan Damian - Vatt, artist vizual şi sound designer, realizatorul spaţiului sonor al spectacolului “4X4” în regia Alexandrei Badea.
Poemul “Howl / Urletul” a fost, în 1957, subiectul unui proces extrem de controversat, de o absurditate kafkiană, dar care a lansat generaţia beat şi a modificat “sufletul şi forma” poeţilor ce au urmat acelor ani. Stilul literar al lui Ginsberg exprimă oroarea faţă de excesele societăţii de consum, fiind descris totodată ca antiautoritar, violent protestatar faţă de civilizaţia tehnică, materialism şi militarism. Influenţat de epica lui Walt Whitman şi Ezra Pound, Allen Ginsberg este considerat atât o forţă socială cât şi un fenomen literar, versurile sale fiind o adevărată istorie a psihicului erei noastre, o expresie a gândurilor şi sentimentelor, supradimensionate uneori în chip întunecos şi profetic, dar care devin în mod natural poetice.
În 2010, după aproape treisprezece ani de la moartea autorului, Editura Polirom publică Prima antologie în limba română Allen Ginsberg, al celui care credea, până la obsesie, că lumea se va putea vindeca prin artă, muzică şi poezie.

“Happening Poética” este produs de Asociaţia Compania FaPt – Fabrica de Artă şi Producţie Teatrală, cu sprijinul Primăriei Municipiului Iaşi, în parteneriat cu Clubul Brain, şi face parte dintr-un program ce are ca obiective: susţinerea formelor alternative şi experimentale de teatru şi artă contemporană; extinderea ideii de artă urbană, prin exploatarea spaţiilor neconvenţionale; formarea unui public spectator-vizitator, precum şi dezvoltarea unei dinamici artistice, axată pe schimburi şi fluxuri culturale.

“Am văzut cele mai strălucite spirite ale generaţiei mele distruse de nebunie, pierind de foame, isteric nude, târându-se în zori prin străzile negre în căutarea unei “doze” aspre, împătimiţi ai jazz-ului cu capete de înger, tânjind după străvechea cerească conectare la dinamul stelar din mecanismul nopţii...”(Howl – Allen Ginsberg)

Imagini care developează povești ale copilăriei magice de la sat sunt vernisate de fotograful Sorin Onișor, miercuri 24 august 2011, ora 21.00, la Brain. Expoziţia “Paradisul pierdut. Universul copilăriei la sat în România mileniului III” va putea fi admirata timp de 2 săptămâni.
Dedicată soției şi fiicei, dar și pasionaților de fotografie şi iubitorilor de inedit, expoziţia surprinde paradisul vieţii de la ţară care în contemporaneitate îşi trăieşte declinul. Prichindeii satelor din spațiul mioritic copilăresc în imagini cu o naturaleţe şi o linişte străine lumii de la oraş. Fericiţi în decorul lor rustic, prinşi în jocurile care le ascut simţurile, copiii satelor sunt încă o comuniune de oameni liberi.
Fotografiile lui Sorin Onișor surprind real viaţa satului românesc, transmit emoţii, dar şi calităţile micilor personaje cum ar fi prietenia, buna vecinătate şi comuniunea.

“Satul românesc îşi trăieşte ultimele momente pentru posteritate şi pentru copiii şi nepoţii noştri care, peste 10 - 15 ani, nu vor mai putea vedea aceste frumuseţi decât în imagini, printre care şi fotografiile mele”, a precizat Sorin Onişor.

Fotograf liber profesionist, doctorand al Universităţii de Vest Timişoara pe tema “Fierarii din Banat şi Transilvania”, semnatar a zeci de expoziţii personale şi colective, Sorin Onişor a colaborat la ilustrarea a numeroase articole, reportaje, cărţi şi albume de fotografie etnografică, colaborator al Televiziunii Române în proiectul “Oamenii Deltei”, membru în numeroase jurii de profil şi organizator de workshop-uri fotografice pe tema satului românesc, artistul a fost multiplu laureat în saloanele, festivalurile şi concursurile naţionale de fotografie.

Organizat de către Centrele Culturale Francez si German, în parteneriat cu British Council Iași, Centrul Cultural al Americii Latine si Caraibelor, Centrul Cultural Oriental, Lectoratele străine ale Universității „Alexandru Ioan Cuza”, Centrul European de Educație si Cultura „ARTEMIS”, „Cafékultour” este o manifestare care si-a câștigat deja aprecierea publicului, devenind unul dintre eve...nimentele mult-așteptate de peste an. Cuvântul de ordine al „Cafékultour” este diversitatea: a organizatorilor, a evenimentelor cuprinse in program, a locațiilor-partenere, a publicurilor vizate.

Timp de doua săptămâni, cluburile si cafenele din Iași se vor transforma in spatii de manifestare a culturii locale si internaționale. „Cafékultour” revine in 2011 cu cea de-a VI-a ediție, într-un format care va aduce, ca de fiecare data, cultura in spatii neconvenționale si va oferi publicului evenimente dintre cele mai diverse: concerte de jazz, de blues, de rock si de muzica clasica, expoziții de fotografie si arta decorativa, spectacole de teatru si de circ, lansări de carte, dezbateri, proiecții de filme etc.

Eveniment organizat de British Council Iasi.

O privire intima asupra vieții renumitului creator britanic de benzi desenate, Johnny Hicklenton, in lupta cu scleroza multipla. Lipsit de mobilitate, Johnny evadează in lumea cunoscutelor lui personaje – Judge Dredd si Nemesis. Singurul film in istoria de peste 36 de ani a festivalului Grierson, răsplătit cu doua premii in cadrul aceleiași editii.
